!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! graciously suggested I go for a drive to help alleviate !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (thanks to everyone who posted). I am fortunate enough to have a readily accessible, fun route through the hills near my home. I sometimes take this route when heading in that direction JUST BECAUSE I CAN.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

This route has elevation changes, curves and some straights. If you catch it at the right time (read, not rush hour when everyone tries to use it to bypass the highway it runs parallel to) it can be downright fun.

So, my question to Oppo is:

What road do you take to have fun driving? Is it picturesque? Curvy? Straight? Flat-out?

Kinja'd!!!

This was from the first time I took the ST through there. It was a beautiful day in July.

I'm not sure how to post images from maps.. theres a road close to me, has a few curves around a lake, but its super bumpy...but the bumps can be fun, and then it turns into lonnnggg straights..that..cops don't really go on.. also, theres a pretty good loop where you usually can just keep driving it over and over without stops, with plenty of curves and some dips on a straight that I drive when I'm stressed.. then there's all sorts of mountain roads within 10 minutes of me (I live in Colorado, and can be in the Rockies on a canyon road in less then 10 minutes)

I did a screenshot and trimmed in paint. You can always share a link of your directions like SaabLife did.

Vista House to Multnomah Falls Lodge. Tons of technical turns and switchbacks with tons of elevation change. that straightish bit is actually pretty curvy still and one side of the road is a sheer drop off. at about 8-9 at night in the summer no one else is on it.

It's like 160 some miles up/down the Mississippi river from Minneapolis > La Crosse WI. Once it gets nicer in the spring I'll enjoy the drive/ride down there on the bikes with my buddies.

I'll be trying that once the snow is gone. I go mountain biking in the hills up there. There are some great places to grill with views overlooking Boston. Nice place for an OPPO meet-up when the nice weather comes around. I love the St. I was thinking about one of those when I was looking for a new car. I like how it doesn't have as much of the boy racer look as the WRX does and I'm a big Ford fan. I ended up going with the WRX mostly for AWD. Another nice ride is 3A stating in Hingham. You can take it all the way through Duxbury down to the Cape. There are some nice roads in Miles Standish Park but you might not be able to open it up as much as you desire to.

There's a few really fun looking(twisty, elevation change, different kind of turns) roads around here, alas they are all residential and I could never convince myself to be that asshole that goes blasting through one of those. So as far as one that's actually fun and drivable, on my way home from school, if it's late enough the roads are pretty deserted, there is an 90 degree sweeping onramp going onto the interstate, goes into a 2 lane 1/2 mile straight away, then into a 270 degree banked 2 lane carousel that then dumps you onto about 1.5 miles of perfectly straight interstate that's 5 lanes wide for most of it. This particular stretch is also all off-grade and has no on ramps for that whole stretch. I'm not gonna say I'm condoning breaking the speed limit, but if you were gonna do it, this would be the place... no chance of repercussions unless you were to somehow run up on someone(you have great visibility through the entire thing).

Anyways, that one interchange is probably the most fun thing I've found around here, but you have to catch it late at night or it's basically a 60mph moving parking lot.

Hills, sweepers, long straights, a redwood forest, lakes, and it ends at the beach. About 30 miles in total of almost perfect back roads.

I've driven literally hundreds in SoCal, but these are a few of my favorites.

Kinja'd!!!

The Palomar Mountain loop is an old stand by. It's cool because it kind of has a wildernessy feel to it, but you don't have to go very far to get there.

Kinja'd!!!

Old Highway 94 is another old favorite. It's relatively close, and pretty much always deserted.

Kinja'd!!!

The 79 between I-8 and Julian is incredible, but it's often a bit crowded, and there are lots of police and park rangers, so you have to keep it reasonable. And then when you get to Julian, there are dozens of beautiful, curvy mountain roads to explore.

Kinja'd!!!

And my all-time favorite, the 155 between Bakersfield and Lake Isabella. Just miles and miles of mean, twisty hairpins with incredible mountain views. Stay away on weekends, because while it isn't exactly trafficky, you're liable to get stuck behind some tourist doing a herky-jerky, brake-riding 25mph. And make sure you have a fresh set of brake pads before you tackle this one.

I went hiking with a buddy a couple weeks ago...just a short trail to the top of Big Blue. Trails were just layered in ice!

I was very close to going with the WRX...literally had pricing and was going to schedule a time to go in and do paperwork. I love it (as a sedan more than a hatch, too) Then I realized that the taxes and such would have been way over my head so I went and test drove the ST...it was too smooth to let go of.

I don't take 3A often and really only to get to the beach during the summer. I never find good time alone along there.

Kinja'd!!!

During the summer I often take this 400 km route from Ottawa to Gravenhurst, Ontario, where my family has a cottage. There is a wider road available, but lately I've been using the narrower double lane regional roads, which provide a great mix of straights, elevation changes and turns, with lots of opportunity to pass slower vehicles.

I'm also in the early planning stages of a North American road trip from Toronto to Vancouver to LA to Pikes Peak and back so I'll be noting the other responses closely.

One of the best drives in AZ has got to be highway 89 through the back into Prescott then 89A through the switchbacks in Jerome. Top it all off with 89A through Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona back to flagstaff and the I17.

Here's the Jerome portion since I can't figure out how to grab a screen from google maps on my phone. Our GTI and R club is doing pretty much this exact drive on the 1st of March for anyone in AZ that's interested. One of these days I'll have to beg for authorship so I can dump some pics for everyone after a drive through there.
